Ethan & Isabella were struggling. Lately, it was like they were living two separate lives that never intersected. Isabella felt trapped at home, tending to the house all day. When Ethan finally returned, he’d immediately start on his phone or computer. She felt so ignored and unprioritized, but every time she brought up her displeasure, Ethan would grow defensive.
For his part, after a long day at the office, the last thing Ethan wanted was to be bombarded with complaints. He felt like Isabella didn’t understand his sacrifices, and it hurt him that he couldn’t make her happy. They were hopelessly stuck.
Sophia & Heather had lost their bond. They used to be as close as a mother and daughter could be – laughing, sharing secrets, with an unshakable connection. But their relationship had begun to fray.
Sophia felt like her mother was always talking down to her and lecturing her – as though she knew what was right for Sophia’s life. But she wasn’t a little kid anymore and felt suffocated by Heather’s overbearing nature. Meanwhile, Heather was worried about the changes in Sophia. She was struggling in school, isolating herself, and seemed allergic to anything Heather said. Something needed to change.
Jacob was ashamed. He’d promised his girlfriend, himself, and even God that he would stop obsessively watching these online videos, but he couldn’t stop. He was filled with guilt and wanted to tell his girlfriend how he was struggling, but he was scared of how she would react.
The fear of losing her was too much to bear, so he kept it all inside. He lied and hid and made excuses, which only compounded the shame he was feeling and drove him further into his compulsions. He knew that if things continued this way, he risked losing everything – but he felt unable to stop.
There is a
way forward.
